Thyristor Based Converters

EXCELLENT ParaLLEL ResonanCE ConVERTeR

In electrical circuits chance of failure increases proportionally with current. In parallel resonance converters current running through thyristors are much lower than serial resonance converters. For the same power levels, current in serial resonance system is around 5 times of a parallel resonance system. This is especially important in high power scenarios, in which the thyristors in serial resonance systems has to be run close to their max current limit.

100% Safety MarGIN IN POWER SEMICONDUCTORS

EGES Converters take advantage of its parallel resonance design to limit the working max current of thyristors to half of their actual max current limits. In other words, in EGES converters thyristors systems are designed with 100% current safety margin. Lower working currents equal lower working temperatures which in turn means much longer expected lifespan. An average thyristor has a maximum working temperature of 125 °C. Statistically, expected lifespan of an thyristor doubles at each 10 °C mark below its maximum temperature. EGES designs thyristor based converters to work at around 80-95 °C working temperatures to maximize thyristor life expectancy and minimize recurring spare part costs.

LOWER METLING COSTS WITH COnstant POWER

EGES Ultramelt furnaces draws “Constant Power” even right after the first charge, lowering melting time and increasing energy efficiency. “Full Power” is automatically set by the system without requiring any additional input from the furnace operator.

IGBT Based Converters

HIGH EFFICIENCY AT LOW POWERS WITH DIGITAL CONTROL SYSTEM

IGBT based Converters mainly differ from thyristor based systems with their digital control systems as opposed to analog control systems. Digital control systems provide much higher efficiency and more importantly prevents power factor falling under 0.98 even at low powers. During usual operation power factor stays over 0.99. Normally in thyristor based systems during low power operation, like liquid metal holding and sintering process, causes high reactive energy bills or requires an additional costly compensation system to reduce reactive energy. IGBT converters shines at these moments, eliminating these additional costs almost entirely.
